Ed Nelson

Ed completed a BSc in Physics at the University of Victoria and then finished a PhD in Low Temperature Physics at the University of Alberta. He researched High Temperature Superconductors as a post-doc, and superfluid Helium mixtures at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). Returning to Canada, Ed began teaching undergraduate Physics at Thompson Rivers University, and followed up with two years of teaching in the Science One Program at the University of British Columbia. Ed returned to research in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, working on magnetocaloric refrigeration and liquefaction of natural gas in the Institute for Integrated Energy Studies. In 1998, Ed started at Camosun College and discovered a passion for teaching that has grown with the years. He has learned more about teaching and learning from his students, through open, friendly discussion in the classroom and laboratory. Mastering a subject like Physics can be a challenge and a struggle, and Ed gains a lot of satisfaction in helping students find success in their studies.
