I have been in Chemistry essentially all my adult life starting with an apprenticeship in the chemical industry following up with an undergraduate degree from the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and graduate school at the University of Victoria. A postdoctoral fellowship brought me back to Jena and eventually back to the industry and pharmaceutical research. I was deeply inspired by Andy Farquarson's Higher Teaching and Learning Course which I took back in graduate school to become a better and more effective teaching assistant. At Jena this inspiration grew, and I transitioned into full time teaching, first at VIU and UBC and since 2008 at Camosun.
