Instructor, Philosophy
Anthony J. Gavin is an interdisciplinary PhD candidate in the departments of French and philosophy at the University of Victoria, pursuing a concentration in the Cultural, Social and Political Thought program. He holds an MA from Concordia University and a BA (Honours) from the University of Victoria.
Anthony’s areas of specialization include deconstruction, biopolitics, and posthumanism, with additional areas of expertise in continental philosophy, bioethics, and science and technology studies. His current research explores the ethical, aesthetic, and ecological entanglements between human and more-than-human worlds, in relation to emerging genomic biotechnologies like the CRISPR/Cas9 complex. In addition to his teaching and research activities, Anthony is a board member with the Existential and Phenomenological Theory and Culture Society of Canada.
