Each year, Camosun nominates individuals for the NISOD Award of Excellence. NISOD is a consortium of community and technical colleges committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership.  This year, five long-standing individuals from Eyēʔ Sqȃ’lewen received this honour.

  • Faye Martin (Gitxsan), Indigenous Advisor and Instructor

  • Wendy McDonald (Cree, Metis, Northern Manitoba), Coordinator of Learning Support-CLP Indigenous Advisor, Instructor

  • Sandee Mitchell (Anishinaabe), Instructor and Program Leader

  • Todd Ormiston (Tutchone and Tlingit), Faculty Chair

  • Suzanne Wilkinson (Cree, Woodlands), Indigenous Advisor

Faye,  Sandee, Suzanne, Todd and Wendy, have been instrumental in the work to indigenize the institution. Leading with good hearts and good minds, and with a spirit of generosity they have helped the entire college community learn about the tragic impact of residential schools and other colonial imposed structures. They have modelled ways of knowing, being and doing, always helping to pave the college’s way towards reconciliation.
