Camosun College students bring elegant dining to Greater Victoria’s homeless

On October 25th, 36 students in Camosun’s Hospitality Management program brought a touch of fine dining to some of Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable citizens. The students— dressed in impeccable black and white outfits—organized, prepared and served a two-course, table-served meal for approximately 600 less fortunate guests at Our Place society.

The special menu included: Spice encrusted Pork Tender loin, Sundried Tomato Green Beans Root Vegetable Mash, and Mustard Jus, followed by Apple cake with Spiced Dried Fruit Chutney for dessert. This event was used to introduce students to the various ways of using social innovation to develop relationships with community stakeholders in a hospitality context.

This is the seventh year that the students have delivered the event. This year marks a turning point due to the continued expansion of the Hospitality Management Program; this event will now be offered twice a year. This long term sustainable relationship that has been created is due to a strong philosophy of giving back and applied learning that are firmly embedded in the Hospitality Management program.
