Camosun College community – together against racism and injustice
Release date: June 3, 2020
From: Sherri Bell, President, Camosun College
On behalf of the Camosun College community, we are deeply saddened and appalled by acts of racism, discrimination and violence toward any group of people, and especially distressed by the horrific incidents we are seeing in the United States of late toward the Black community.
Unfortunately we know that no country or community is immune to prejudice and intolerance. In our own community, racialized people have been oppressed and persecuted.
We, as a college community, stand in support of each other and our broader community. As a public post-secondary institution we believe in individuality, diversity, inclusiveness and equity for all people. We respect human rights.
As faculty, staff and students of higher learning we all have an obligation to teach and practice justice, equality, respect and peace.
Camosun College is proud to play a vital role in developing an engaged, civic-minded and community-focused educated society.
