Camosun College welcomes two new members to the Board of Governors

Camosun College today announced the appointment of new members Richard Margetts and Brent Palmer to the Board of Governors. The appointment is effective July 31, 2020 to July 31, 2021.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Richard and Brent to the Board,” says Board Chair Laylee Rohani. “All of our board members play an important role in contributing to the success of our students. Richard’s legal background and Brent’s strong community service background will be an enormous benefit to the board in serving the College and our learners.”
Richard Margetts is Associate Counsel with Johns Southward Glazier Walton & Margetts LLP and has extensive experience in civil litigation and administrative law. Mr. Margetts is a Director with Malahat Investment Corp., YOS Development Corp., and Cedars. He also is a Member of the Community Care and Assisted Living Appeal Board. Previously Mr. Margetts was Secretary of the YM/YWCA (Victoria) and President of Vancouver Island Road Relay. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
Brent Palmer was the Food Bank Director of the Mustard Seed Food Bank for 35 years where he set up the structure to fund the food bank, raise money and food donations. Active in his community, Mr. Palmer was Director of the Vancouver Island Food Recovery and Distribution Centre, a Member Council BC representative for the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Food Banks, and on the Board of Directors for Food Banks Canada. He was a Founding Member and currently is a Board Member of the Provincial Association of Food Banks BC. Mr. Palmer was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal.
Camosun College has campuses located on the Traditional Territories of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. Established in 1971, the college serves over 19,000 learners a year in certificate, diploma, bachelor's degree, post-degree diploma and continuing education programs.
The Board of Governors administers the college on behalf of the B.C. Government and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training as legislated by the College and Institute Act.
