Camosun congratulates long-time supporters Lynda and Murray Farmer on receiving the Order of British Columbia

Camosun is proud to congratulate long-time donors and friends of the college, Lynda and Murray Farmer, on receiving the Order of British Columbia today, Friday, June 28.
Murray and Lynda Farmer are among 15 exceptional citizens being recognized this month as the Order of BC marks its 30th year. The award honours those who have acted with distinction in their field of endeavour, and who have been an example of generosity, service and selflessness in their community.
The Order of BC is the highest honour the province can bestow on a citizen. There have been 447 appointees to the order since it began.
Residents of North Saanich, the Farmers are well-known for their philanthropy and leadership in their community. Over many years, Lynda and Murray have been dedicated supporters and donors of Camosun College – Lynda Farmer having served as Chair of the Camosun College Board of Governors and as a member of the Camosun Foundation Board; Murray Farmer having served on the Board of the University of Victoria as Chair and two terms as Chancellor.
The Farmers also co-chaired the Camosun Foundation’s TRADEmark fundraising campaign which successfully raised over $7.5 million to support trades education at the college, and continue to support students each year.
The Farmers were also co-chairs of the fundraising campaign to establish the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre in Sidney, they are long-time contributors to the BC Cancer Foundation and have both been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

In particular, I admire the commitment to students in encouraging each of them to embrace learning as they strive to reach their full potential. By supporting extraordinary learning opportunities, Camosun helps transform students’ lives which ultimately help our communities and economy prosper. I know my own life has been enriched by my association with Camosun and I say ‘thank you, Camosun College.’”
