Camosun offering new programs this fall in technology and health
Release Date: July 17, 2019
Starting this September, Camosun is offering new and exciting programs that will equip students with the skills to succeed in the rapidly expanding technology and health care fields.
The Interactive Media Developer program is geared to the artistically and technologically minded who are interested in growing their programming skills and artistic vision. The program will prepare students to work in application, game or web development, graphic design, and user interaction. The program is made up of a one-year, full-time certificate with a subsequent one-year diploma.
The Electrical Engineering Technology—Marine & Industrial diploma program prepares students for direct entry in the growing marine or industrial electrical sectors. Grads have the option of furthering their education in engineering at the University of Victoria. Some careers include analog and digital circuitry design, communication systems design and installation, marine electrical propulsion systems, and computer-aided design.
The Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant program trains students to become integral front-line healthcare workers responsible for collecting blood, fluids, and physiologic data used by physicians to diagnose medical conditions. Aging populations with complex care needs, constant additions of new testing services, and expanding scopes of practice result in a constant demand for new laboratory professionals.
“Camosun College enjoys a great reputation as an educational destination that provides students with applied learning that is responsive to real world demands,” says John Boraas, Vice-President of Education at Camosun College. “Demand for skilled employees is high. Whether in a medical lab setting, electrical engineering or in interactive media, we can open the doors for students to a range of well-paying, rewarding careers.”
Some seats are still available in these programs for qualified students. More information about these programs and other programs available this September are available online.
According to B.C. Labour Market Outlook 2018 edition, of the 903,000 job openings in the next decade, about 153,820 will occur in the Vancouver Island and Coastal regions.
Camosun College has campuses located on the traditional territories of the Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. Established in 1971, the college serves 18,650 learners a year in certificate, diploma, bachelor's degree, post-degree diploma and continuing education programs.
