The public is invited to attend the 7th annual Camosun Comic Arts Festival (CCAF) hosted by the Comics & Graphic Novels program at Camosun College.

The one-day event will be held from noon until 5pm on Saturday, April 13, 2019, located on the third floor of the Young building at Lansdowne campus. Admission is free.

The festival is a celebration of the artistic and literary impact of comics and graphic novels created locally, nationally, and internationally. Conference attendees will hear, see, and experience the process of visual storytelling, and discuss the medium with the students, teachers, professional creators, publishers, and other fans.

A highlight of the event will be the “Artists Alley” showcasing the publications and artwork created by the students in this year’s Comics & Graphic Novels program. Professional guest mentors in attendance include Gareth Gaudin, Karen Gillmore, Janine Johnston, Sam Logan, Glen Mullaly, Renee Nault, Jess Pollard, and Alex Steacy.

Guest speaker this year is Brian Stelfreeze, a painter, penciller, inker and colorist who has worked for every major American comic book publisher, and was the artist on the 2016 revival of Marvel's Black Panther with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make their own visual stories in a “comics jam” and drop-in drawing with cosplay models. Comics, prints, and original artwork by both students and pros will be available for sale.

About the Comics & Graphic Novels Program

Unique in the Canadian post-secondary school system, the one year certificate program in Comics & Graphic Novels was created for students who have a desire to learn the language of visual storytelling. The program focuses on skills-based training for six career paths, which include creation (both in print and online) of comic books, comic strips, web comics, graphic novels, storyboards, and edutainment comics.
