Cultural Showcase celebrates international and local students’ talent
Release Date: March 19, 2018
On Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Gibson Auditorium on Camosun’s Lansdowne campus, more than 10 different acts will bring cultures together and celebrate diverse expressions of talent. Admission is free for this family-friendly event.
The popular Camosun International Cultural Showcase, now in its eleventh consecutive year, celebrates a talented cohort of international and local student performers.
Performances range from breakdance and hula hoop dancing, to a cultural runway of global style, to music by Camosun students and other musicians from the Victoria Conservatory of Music. The evening of performances will begin with an acknowledgement ceremony by Indigenous elders.
“The Cultural Showcase brings staff, students and the community together for a wonderful celebration of our diverse cultures,” say Diana Shields, Associate Director of Camosun International (CI). “I am very excited to attend this year’s performance now that we are back at our original venue.”
Presented by Camosun International and Peer Connections, CI’s student leadership group, the Cultural Showcase is produced and organized by Camosun students. After a few years at the Alix Goolden Hall, the showcase is returning to its roots on Lansdowne campus. The Gibson Auditorium provides the perfect stage and a more intimate atmosphere.
The showcase coincides with the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, promoting tolerance and acceptance of other cultures through creativity. While there is no admission charge for the Cultural Showcase, donations in support of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) will be accepted.
