Friends of Camosun Award recognizes students who find joy in learning
Release Date: December 3, 2018
The Camosun College Foundation is pleased to announce the Friends of Camosun Award recipients, recognizing students who demonstrate a joy of learning in each of the college’s five schools. The recipients were acknowledged in a special lunch on Wednesday, December 12.
The Friends of Camosun Award is a biannual gift honouring the generosity and involvement of an individual or organization with a high-level of engagement with the college, as well as outstanding civic and charitable responsibility to our community.
The 2017 recipients, Murray and Lynda Farmer, chose to direct the award to students who demonstrate academic excellence and community engagement. The students were nominated by chairs and instructors and ultimately selected by the dean of the schools. The recipients include:
|Lajah Warren||School of Health and Human Services|
|Annalysa Tylor||School of Arts and Science|
|Akio Yasu||School of Trades and Technology|
|Dima Milly||School of Access|
|Maia Sampson||School of Business|
“It was our wish that the award recipient be chosen by the dean of each school and be a student who exhibits a passion for learning combined with a clearly demonstrated commitment to their educational goals or chosen field of study,” says Lynda Farmer. “We believe this speaks to the work ethic students apply to their educational pursuits at Camosun.”
Murray and Lynda Farmer are well-known philanthropists and community builders, with family roots in the Victoria construction industry and a long relationship with Camosun. The husband-wife team served as co-chairs of the TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign, helping to raise more than $7.5 million for the Centre for Trades Education and Innovation on Interurban campus.
