$135,000 awarded to Camosun students in Ike Barber Transfer Scholarships
Release Date: November 16, 2017
Twenty-seven deserving Camosun College students have just learned they will each receive a $5,000 Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship recognizing their excellence in academic achievement and community service.
The Irving K. Barber Scholarship Society, named for the BC philanthropist and founder of Slocan Forest Products Ltd., encourages students to start their post-secondary studies at a local public institution like Camosun College, then transfer to a degree-granting institution in BC to complete their four-year bachelor degree.
Camosun students received the most number of Barber scholarships this year among all BC colleges.
“On behalf of Camosun College, I am delighted to congratulate the 2017 scholarship recipients,” says President Sherri Bell. “Their success speaks to the exceptional value of a Camosun education: excellent instructors, an applied, engaging learning environment, close to home.”
Since the Ike Barber scholarships were established in 2006, more than 235 awards have been presented to Camosun College students.
“The number of Camosun scholars named each year and the range of programs they represent is a testament to our strength as a comprehensive community college,” says Bell. Camosun’s award recipients plan to complete degrees in criminal justice, liberal arts, sciences, nursing and engineering technology at the University of Victoria, UBC and Royal Roads University.
