United Way of Greater Victoria’s annual Spirit Awards were presented on April 24th at a gala luncheon at the Fairmont Empress and Camosun’s team claimed victory over UVic and Royal Roads in the annual post secondary cup challenge.

“We’re thrilled to achieve this ‘friendly victory’ to support such a worthwhile local charity,” says Camosun College President Sherri Bell. “Camosun and the United Way have long been partners in improving lives and building a healthy community. Congratulations to everyone on Camosun’s campaign team for raising the bar once again with their hard work and generosity.”

For several years, Camosun, UVic, and Royal Roads have engaged in a friendly competition around the United Way campaign, designed to increase participation and charitable giving. The challenge is for the highest level of participation and the most amount of money raised. In 2016, Camosun raised $67,284 for the United Way campaign.

A huge thank you to Camosun’s United Way campaign co-chairs Hannah Rose and Susanne Yakimovich for their strong leadership of the “Power of You” campaign and to the entire campaign committee for organizing a number of great events and successful pledge drives. Thank you to all the Camosun employees who donated and participated in fun events such as the campaign kick off BBQ, pancake breakfasts, bike raffle, book sale and silent auction, paper shredding fundraiser and more!

For the past 22 years, Camosun College has been a proud supporter of the United Way. In that time college donors have contributed over $1.2 million to the United Way that supports hundreds of programs and services across the Greater Victoria region.

United Way’s annual Spirit Awards are given to donors, volunteers, community partners and businesses in Greater Victoria for their exceptional community spirit, team spirit, and spirit of generosity when running a workplace giving campaign. Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists and award recipients.
