Camosun student performers showcase talents and cultures
Release Date: March 14, 2016
The popular Camosun International Cultural Showcase, now in its ninth consecutive year, returns March 24, 2016 to the Alix Goolden Performance Hall, 907 Pandora Ave.
A cohort of international and local student performers will bring cultures together and celebrate diverse expressions of talent at this free, family-friendly event. Doors open at 7pm; performance begins at 7:30pm.
Performances range from exuberant Indian folk dance to Korean rock songs; classical instrumental performances to a local indie-folk group with original songwriting; and much more. A new addition to this year’s line-up is a fashion show featuring traditional and contemporary styles from cultures around the world. Camosun will also welcome a return performance from community guests, Chinese Cultural Dance Victoria.
"Every year, we are surprised and awed by the students who perform in the showcase," says Helena Cui, Camosun International’s event coordinator. “Camosun’s international students have more passion and talent than we can imagine. This is their night to shine.”
Presented by Camosun International and Camosun College Peer Connections—CI’s student leadership group—the Cultural Showcase is produced and organized by Camosun students. Due to popular demand, in 2014 the showcase moved to the Alix Goolden, a perfect venue for a growing and appreciative local audience.
The showcase coincides with the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, promoting tolerance and acceptance of other cultures through creativity. While there is no admission charge for the Cultural Showcase, donations in support of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) will be accepted.
