Camosun College responds to International tourism growth
Camosun launches Post-Degree Diploma in Applied Tourism and Hospitality

Over 1.1 billion tourists travelled abroad in 2014 with 3% to 4% growth in 2015, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Responding to the emerging needs of local industry, government, and, the global expanding tourism industry, Camosun College has launched the new Post-Degree Diploma in Applied Tourism and Hospitality program. The brand new program delivers hands-on applied skills, and business competencies enabling students to launch successful careers in this growing industry.
“According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, tourism is the fourth largest contributor to global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the world,” says Paul Nursey, CEO Tourism Victoria. “Our local business community needs educated, trained employees that can contribute practically to our success.”
The new credential has been designed for students who have an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution. The learning experience will include a blend of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Management specific courses that provide students with the necessary skills to operate their own businesses in tourism, or work in hotels that operate with diverse cultural environments. Along with the applied learning courses, students will participate in internships within the industry.
“As the industry continues to expand, we want to provide educated career-changers, tourism entrepeneurs, international students, recent immigrants and post-degree focused students an opportunity to experience the incredible opportunities that are available in the hospitality and tourism industry,” says Carl Everitt, Chair of Camosun’s Hospitality, Tourism and Golf Management programs.
