Release Date: March 31, 2015

The public is invited to attend this year's Camosun Comic Arts Festival, hosted by the Comics and Graphic Novels program. Admission is free and the main event is scheduled for 12-5pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Activities will be located on the third floor of the Young building at Camosun's Lansdowne campus, 3100 Foul Bay Road, Victoria.

The Camosun Comic Arts Festival celebrates the artistic and literary impact of comics and graphic novels created locally, nationally, and internationally.  Participants will hear, see and experience the process of visual storytelling and will have an opportunity to meet students, teachers, professional creators, publishers and other fans.

In addition to the Saturday activities, a round-table keynote talk will happen the evening before, at 7pm, Friday, April 10, located at the Greater Victoria Public Library's Nellie McClung branch, 3950 Cedar Hill Road. This keynote talk is also open to the public, and will feature local legend Gareth Gaudin, Canadian Comic Book Hall of Fame inductees Katherine Collins aka Arn Saba (Neil the Horse), Simon Roy (Tiger Lung) and Renée Nault (The Handmaid's Tale.)

All-day highlights on Saturday include:

  • Artists' Alley – showcasing the publications and artwork created by 13 students from this year's graduating class, as well as alumni and local creators. The students' comics, prints and original artwork will be available for sale, and a few vendors will also be selling vintage comics and graphic novels.
  • Comics Jam – the public will be invited to create their own visual stories and practice live-model drawing with the help of the Superheroes of Victoria.
  • Guest Comics Creators – Nelson Dewey, Glen Mullaly, Janine Johnston, Ash Vickers, Glen Lovett, Sam Logan, Deni Loubert, Alex Steacy as well as the keynote artists featured on Friday evening. These artists will also have comics, original artwork and sketches for sale.

The public is welcome to drop in anytime and stay as long as they like. Cosplay is encouraged.
