International students love Camosun's quality of education, class sizes & safety
Release Date: April 20, 2015
A survey of international students shows that they're happy with Camosun College's high quality of education, small class sizes, and safe campus environment.
The i-Graduate International Student Barometer (ISB) is an independent benchmarking and research service for the worldwide education sector. As the largest annual study of student opinions on education and services in the world, 165,000 international students responded to the 2014 survey from institutions in 18 countries.
"Students want high levels of service and have high expectations when they make the choice to study overseas," says Geoff Wilmshurst, Director of Camosun International. "With Camosun's highly regarded programs and instructors, it's no surprise that students are happy with the quality of education they receive here."
Nineteen per cent of Camosun's 1,110 international students' responses were included in the survey between October and December 2014, with particularly strong representation from students from China, India, and Brazil. The semi-standardized, confidential questionnaire covered pre-arrival decision-making factors and students' experience at their chosen school, including learning, living, support, and academic engagement.
Camosun also performed well in the housing category, ranking in the top five globally. Students are highly satisfied with the administration of the Camosun homestay program, but also suggested that they would positively receive on-campus housing, which allow for more opportunities for integration with domestic students and campus involvement.
As with any survey, the ISB also provided insight into services that need improvement, such as the arrival experience for new students, offering more social activities and helping students better integrate into the Camosun and Victoria communities.
"The survey results provide us with a baseline to work with," says Wilmshurst. "This is the first time Camosun students have participated in the ISB survey, and we plan to continue seeking their feedback in the years to come."
