Skills to Appreciate
Administrative professionals are in the top in-demand labour list
Administrative Professionals Day is April 22
The recent BC Labour Market research shows a strong demand in the next ten years for office administrators, legal administrative assistants, and medical office assistants. Camosun College is responding to that economic reality by providing re-designed Applied Business Technology programs.
According to the report, approximately 78% of the projected job openings will require some post-secondary education or training. This illustrates the move towards a knowledge based economy. Camosun is in an excellent position to provide the skills training needed to meet that labour supply.
Camosun's Applied Business Technology (ABT) programs include:
- Applied Project Management
- Hospital Unit Clerk
- Legal Office Assistant
- Medical Office Assistant
- Office Administration
- Office Management
"The programs offer a great gateway to exciting jobs and careers in a variety of industries," says Odette Coccola, Chair of Applied Business Technology. "And many take less than a year to complete."
Camosun's ABT programs provide technologically current office training, helping students develop skills and attitudes necessary for a successful career. The programs provide effective and efficient training that concentrates on the concepts of communication, technology, accounting and professionalism.
"The increasing dependency on and importance of administrative professionals in our offices definitely merits the need for Administrative Professionals Day," says Coccola.
Single parents on income or disability assistance may have access to financial assistance for these programs through their WorkBC Centre.
