The Camosun College Foundation’s annual fundraising dinner and auction, A Recipe for Success, generated close to $35,000 for student bursaries, March 19 at the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel.
A four-course gourmet feast
More than 130 guests dined on an outstanding four-course gourmet meal of Saltspring Island mussels, pesto-crusted prawns, pureed cauliflower soup with a hint of stilton, pan-seared citrus sablefish and caramelized pear and brioche pudding expertly prepared by Camosun’s Culinary Arts students and chefs and served by the College’s Hotel/Restaurant Management students along with the Marriott culinary team.
Co-hosts Bruce Williams of /A\ Vancouver Island and David Sovka, Associate Director of College and Community Relations, entertained while guests bid on over 60 silent and live auction items donated by community businesses. Camosun’s Tourism Management students assisted with the auctions.
More dollars for student emergency funds
“This is always a fabulous evening and a delightful experience for our students and donors,” said Camosun Foundation Executive Director Susan Haddon. “We’re pleased the event raised almost $5,000 more than last year and funds will go directly to enhance our one-time and emergency funds for those students in most urgent need. This year alone we expect at least 3,100 students will require some kind of financial assistance.”
The Camosun Foundation thanks its many dinner sponsors for such a successful event: presenting sponsor TD Bank Financial Group; host sponsor the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel; raffle sponsor Robbins Parking; live auction sponsor Island Blue; silent auction sponsor Victoria Contracting and Municipal Maintenance Corporation; reception sponsor Thrifty Foods; floral sponsor Brown’s the Florist; dessert sponsor Concert Properties; program brochure sponsor Coca-Cola; and, media and communication sponsors /A\ Vancouver Island and Sharp’s Audio-Visual.
The Camosun College Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to raising funds in support of the College’s mission and goals with emphasis on student financial support, classroom equipment, research and capital initiatives.
