Starting in 1974, Ken Steacy--Camosun instructor and co-founder of Camosun’s Comics & Graphic Novels program--earned acclaim as a professional comic book author, illustrator, art director, editor and publisher, chronicling the stories of Spider-Man, Harry Potter, Astro Boy and the characters from the Star Wars universe. His latest project, “War Bears” is a unique collaboration with legendary Canadian author Margaret Atwood.

Camosun College's Interurban campus will be the site of Mind Over Metal from August 13-17, a week-long welding summer camp for students ages 12 to 15. Offered in partnership with the CWB Welding Foundation, the camp is free for attendees and is funded by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation in conjunction with Seaspan.

For 30 years, the fine furniture program at Camosun College has been a place for students to explore their art through woodworking and joinery.
Some 500 graduates have gone on to careers in the industry across the Island and Lower Mainland, and in recognition of those achievements the college will exhibit the design work of 30 students at the University of Victoria’s Legacy Gallery, now on until Sept. 22.

Camosun Business Co-op student Robin Stone received dual honours this year as she was selected as both the National College Co-op Student of the Year and the Provincial (BC/Yukon) College Co-op Student of the Year for 2017. This is the 11th year in a row a Camosun student has been named the provincial co-op student of the year.

Third year sheet metal apprentice Dean Gustin won a bronze medal at the 2018 Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton, Alberta on June 4 and 5. After winning a gold medal at the Skills Canada British Columbia competition in April, Gustin had the opportunity to compete against apprentices from across the country in the Sheet Metal Work category.

Coach Hastie is a Class "A" member of the PGA of Canada and in 2016, was named the Vancouver Island Class "A" Professional of the Year. The Camosun Chargers Men’s Volleyball team completed a historic season in 2017-18, winning the PACWEST conference title for a fourth consecutive year, a feat not accomplished since the inception of the league in 1971. The team went on to a fourth place finish at the National Championship, hosted at Camosun College, losing 13-15 in the fifth set of a dramatic bronze medal match.

Camosun College has been awarded $200,000 in start-up funding from the provincial Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training to support increased access to web technology and engineering graphics certificate programs.
