The Camosun Chargers Athletics Department is proud to announce that women’s volleyball outside Erica Bolink (Pacific Christian School/Victoria, B.C.) and men’s basketball forward David Finch (Argyle Secondary/North Vancouver, B.C.) have been named the 2014-2025 Chargers Athletes of the Year.
Erica led the PACWEST in kills (318) and aces (73), totalling over 410 total points on the season. Her performance this season cemented her name, not just as Athlete of the Year, but one of the Chargers all-time women’s volleyball players.
She owns too many records to name, but this year she added to that list with: the most kills in a single game (30), second most aces in a single game (10) and fourth most digs in a single game (32). Erica also became one of two Chargers ever to earn over 1,000 points in her career and stands alone with the most career aces.
This season, she was named PACWEST Athlete of the Week twice and once as CCAA Athlete of the Week and a league First Team All-Star and Championship All-Star.
“Very few athletes can dominate in every skill the way Erica does,” says Head Coach, Brent Hall. “She has rewritten our record books, but more than that, she has left a lasting mark on our team culture through her dedication and her ability to elevate everyone around her. This honour is well-earned.”
David made a huge jump in his final year as a Charger. He finished second in league Player of the Year voting and was selected as a PACWEST First Team All-Star and a CCAA All-Canadian.
He was fourth in the conference in average points per game (15.41), and top 10 in rebounds (136), assists (71), blocks, made three’s and three-point percentage. In addition to his excellent on-court presence, his steady leadership made a huge difference to the team and his excellence in the classroom made him an Academic All-Canadian.
“David has been a central piece for us for the last several seasons and has been captain for the past two. This year has been a breakout season and because of an impressive amount of work during the off-season, David was runner-up for league MVP,” says Head Coach, Geoff Pippus. “Additionally, his impact on team culture and in the community may have surpassed his on-court performance. David has taken on and excelled at a full academic load, and actively volunteered with a youth mentorship program as well as an adaptive fitness program. He is a steadying leadership presence and a first-class human.”
The Athlete of the Year Awards are presented annually to the athletes who have demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication and sportsmanship throughout the season. Other team awards were presented at the Chargers Awards Ceremony on April 3.
