Team In-Credit-Ble committed to producing their best effort and were rewarded for their hard work with a 2nd place finish.
On March 12th, 2016, School of Business, Team In-Credit-Ble, participated in the CPABC Annual Case Competition hosted at the Simon Fraser University Harbour Center. After a full day of competition, they placed 2nd overall, with CPA very impressed with their presentation.
The annual Chartered Professional Accountants of BC (CPABC) Case Competition gives post-secondary students from all over the province an opportunity to develop their case analysis and presentation skills, compete, have fun, and earn cash prizes.
The first round of the competition took place in February 2016, when more than 30 teams from nine post-secondary campuses in BC competed for a spot in the final round of the competition. The finalists from each school competed in the finals in Vancouver to claim the top prize. Camosun Team In-Credit-Ble students Vassili Angelblazer, Tyler Bordeleau, David Hilborn, and Bryan Johnson were selected as one of the top 8 teams to compete in the finals.
In order to win, the teams needed to apply the enabling competencies which are essential to the CPA profession:
- Professional and ethical behaviour,
- Problem-solving and decision-making,
- Teamwork and leadership.
Anna Belyaeva (CPABC Business Development Coordinator) announced the winners, Team In-credit-ble was called for the second place trophy! It was a mixture of excitement, surprise and pride because we had committed ourselves to producing our best effort and it was a great feeling to be rewarded for our hard work.
In addition to the team prizes there was also a Twitter challenge during our Awards Dinner and Dave Hilborn won: "The Most Retweeted Post”.
I am very grateful for the opportunity and support both from Camosun College and from CPABC in helping us participate and thrive at this event. This was a major learning experience for me, it connected the dots between everything I’ve learned in class with the practical applications of the real world. The CPABC Case Study is a great challenge for students wanting to pursue the CPA designation. I look forward to forming a team and competing again next year. ~ Vassili Angelblazer, Read his full account of the event.
