Office: JD 134AEmail: murrayg@camosun.caPhone: 250–370–3762

Geoff Murray

Geoff has been a Carpentry Instructor at Camosun since 2006. This position is the perfect confluence of his varied career. Geoff graduated from University of Manitoba in 1980 with a B.A. Honours (Economics). After a couple of years of hard skiing and travel, he spent the rest of the 80’s working for Outward Bound schools in Canada and the US, leading outdoor adventure trips from the Arctic to the Everglades. Geoff started his carpentry apprenticeship in Manitoba and Red River Community College in Winnipeg before moving to Victoria in 1990. He completed his training with several local construction companies and at Camosun, achieving his Red Seal in 1994. The scholastics of university, the small group and experiential education based leadership of Outward Bound, and 20 years of practical carpentry aligned when he started training apprentices.

Geoff is a firm believer in ‘learning-by-doing” and the carpentry curriculum is well suited to this approach of training and education. Geoff continues to grow professionally. Since coming to Camosun he has achieved his LEED AP in green building design and construction and his Diploma in the BC Provincial Instructor Program. He is the Chair of the Carpentry Articulation Committee and lead Subject Matter Expert in the revision of the provincial Carpentry learning resources. Geoff’s hobbies include furniture and instrument making and singing and strumming the same old songs over and over.
