Michelle Burgoyne Bachelor of Sport & Fitness Leadership (Sport Management) 2015

Account Executive, Fan Services BC Lion Football Club

As a mature student who wanted to transition into a new career, I found the instructors in my program very welcoming and supportive. The hands-on experiences (in class and internship) that I was exposed to, opened me to aspects of the field I hadn't previously considered. I loved being able to combine business with my love of sport and recreation during my time at CSEE. It shaped who I became after graduation, and provided me with the skill set needed for my current position with the BC Lions.

Jon-Barlow

Jonathan Barlow Diploma in Exercise & Wellness 2011

Performance Specialist, EXOS (formerly Athletes' Performance)

To complete my Diploma at Camosun, I travelled to Phoenix, Arizona to intern at Athletes’ Performance (now EXOS). To my surprise, I was offered a full-time position right after my internship. As a Performance Specialist, my job involves designing and implementing performance training programs to a wide variety of professional (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, etc.), college and high school athletes. Aside from coaching, I travel across the United States teaching various performance based courses at military bases. I have now been with EXOS for over 4 years and attribute much of my success to the education I received at Camosun.

During my time at Camosun, I took part in the Exercise and Wellness program. There were a couple main areas that made my experience memorable; the professors and the emphasis on a group dynamic. Each professor was sincerely passionate about their role teaching and mentoring students. The passion I have, and share with my clients, was infused in me through the genuine passion of my professors and mentors at Camosun.

The Exercise and Wellness program had a significant focus around group work; learning to empathize, work with different personalities, and execute at a high level, were all key parts of the group dynamic at Camosun that helped me excel at EXOS. As I look back, I am very thankful for the mentors and perspective I gained through my two years at Camosun.

Sarah Black

Sarah Black, Bachelor of Athletic & Exercise Therapy 2013

Certified Athletic Therapist, Canadian National Rowing Team

My name is Sarah Black and I'm a Certified Athletic Therapist and a recent graduate from the Athletic & Exercise Therapy degree program at Camosun College.

After graduating last year, I continued my work at PISE as an Adapted Strength & Conditioning Specialist - working to develop S&C and rehabilitative programs for persons with physical disabilities, specifically high-performance athletes. I've always had a passion for para-sport and will continue to stay involved through my director role with the Victoria Wheelchair Sports Club.

Currently, I am the Lead Therapist for the National Rowing Team, working primarily with the Heavyweight Men out of the Victoria Training Centre. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a great organization and group of exceptional athletes while I continue to hone the skills and knowledge I gained at Camosun. I would not be where I am today without the amazing group of instructors and staff at Camosun and PISE and the opportunities and experience I gained through my placements at the University of Victoria and Rugby Canada.

The Centre for Sport & Exercise Education is truly unique in that it combines all facets of learning to prepare you for whatever the real world throws at you. Get involved, build your network - it will all pay off.

Rachel Sproule

Rachel Sproule, Bachelor of Sport & Fitness Leadership (Sport Management) 2013

Manager of Events and Hockey Programs, Moose Jaw Warriors

My name is Rachel Sproule and I am a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Sport and Fitness Leadership program. I am currently working for the Moose Jaw Warriors Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League (WHL) as Manager of Events and Hockey Programs. I absolutely love my job as it utilizes many aspects of what I learned at PISE from event management to leadership and even accounting. Not only did the theoretical aspect of school help with jump starting my career, but also the hands on aspects, especially the internships.

My experience at Camosun and with PISE was amazing and I could not have asked for a better college experience. All of my professors helped guide me to where I am and where I will be in the future as well as opening my eyes to other possibilities in the sporting community. From being able to participate in adapted sport and to learning the intricate parts of leadership, my experience at Camosun and PISE was one I will never forget.

Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith, Bachelor of Sport & Fitness Leadership (Sport Management) 2013

Graduate Assistant, Graduate Program in Sport Management, Long Beach State University

Hello! I see you are on the CSEE web site and I think you have made a great decision to check out the programs they offer. Camosun’s BSFL program gave me a leg up in the sport industry and inspired me on a career path I hadn't considered before the program. If you want to work in sport, Camosun will provide you an excellent education to achieve this goal.

My name is Sarah Smith and I graduated from the BSFL degree in 2014. I have moved to Long Beach, California where I am currently a Graduate Assistant in the Kinesiology department while I complete my Sport Management Master’s degree at Long Beach State. I am currently interning at the Rose Bowl and absolutely love living in California as there are so many opportunities to explore the sport industry.

I attribute Camosun and the instructors in my BSFL degree to my passion for sport education as they taught me not only useful skills in the classroom, but professional development for my career. I hope to one day be a sport education instructor like they are and I know the CSEE has provided me a solid foundation to launch into many other endeavors to achieve this goal.
