Karen Whetung

Aanii! My name is Karen Whetung and I am of mixed ancestry (Anishinaabe, German, and Irish). Though my people are from Southern Ontario, I have lived my whole life in the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people. I raise my hands and say “Chii Miigwech” for the honour of learning, working, and growing with this land and community.

As someone who grew up disconnected from my cultural land base, I struggled to feel connected in my youth. Through my education and experiences with Camosun College and the Indigenous Family Support program I found a sense of belonging and cultural connection, as well as fun and laughter.

If you’re looking to start your educational journey or just want to connect, come find me in the Eye? Squa’lewen office as an Academic Advisor, or out in community as an Instructional Assistant.
