Through a combination of theory and practice you will learn to support the health and wellness of people with disabilities. You will acquire the skills for safe, effective and respectful personal assistance including lifts and transfers, personal hygiene, nutrition, bathing, and positioning. Textbook required.

This course will introduce you to typical growth and
development patterns through the lifespan. Building
on this knowledge, you will explore the causes and
characteristics of developmental and acquired disabilities,
and the common health and physical conditions that can
affect the quality of life of children, adults and families

Work as a CSEA requires effective teamwork in a variety of settings. This course introduces students to the structure, systems and culture of teams, schools, non-profit, private, government and community living organizations as they relate to the roles and responsibilities of the CSEA practitioner. ELC 110 – Developmental Perspectives
Tuition and fees: approximately $300
This course examines the theories that explain human growth from conception to early childhood. Explore the image of the child in society and the influence of family and culture on children’s growth. As you progress through this course, you’ll learn to apply theory to early childhood practice. This course uses an academic child development textbook and requires good reading and writing skills. ELC 150 – Health, Safety and Nutrition
Tuition and fees: approximately $300
This course examines the health, safety and nutritional needs of children. Emphasis is placed on the role and responsibilities of the educator in establishing and maintaining safe, nurturing environments for children in cooperation with families. Students learn how to write health, safety and nutrition curriculum and policies. Textbook required.

This course critically examines all aspects of creating an inclusive caring and learning environment for children with diverse abilities. This practicum consolidates theory and practice. Students are involved in all aspects of providing care and learning experiences that supports children under age 3 and their families. Students take the initiative to demonstrate practice as an early childhood educator. This practicum satisfies credentials for an infant toddler educator (ITE).

This one semester course offers the student information and practical assistance relating to health maintenance and promotion. Health/wellness is viewed as an interaction between physical, emotional, social, cognitive, spiritual and environmental dimensions, with choices in one dimension affecting all the others. HLTH 112 (UT) - Holistic Health and Healing
Tuition and fees: approximately $440
Introduction to the philosophy and practices of holistic health and healing. This knowledge can be used as an adjunct to professional practice and as a basis for self-care. This course is theoretical and experientially based. It does not prepare participants to practice as holistic health practitioners. Textbook required.

Mental Health & Addiction

With Camosun's Mental Health Certificate, you will have the grounding necessary for beginning employment in the mental health field.
The Community Mental Health program is currently under review and several changes will occur. The web will be updated with the changes to the personal and professional development courses in January 2012.
Practical Nursing
In the Practical Nursing program, you’ll acquire the practical and theoretical grounding you’ll need to give professional nursing care to individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings. You’ll work through a combination of course work and practical clinical placements, completing a program that will prepare you for your subsequent work as a Practical Nurse.
PNUR 101 - Human Anatomy & Physiology for Practical Nursing
Tuition and fees: approximately $350
This course is an introduction to the human body. Learners explore the structure and function of main organ systems and discuss health promotion strategies to support optimal function of each system. The terminology of human anatomy and physiology will be stressed. Textbook required.
Please note: This course does not count towards A&P credit for any program at Camosun College other than Practical Nursing.
