Centre for Health and Wellness
Camosun College is developing a new building for health and social service education on Interurban campus, expected to open in 2019.
Why is Camosun building a new health building?
The Alex & Jo Campbell Centre for Health and Wellness (CHW) at the Interurban Campus will bring together students, faculty, and staff in the School of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will allow us to work in interdisciplinary and collaborative ways. Currently HHS programs are spread across many different buildings at Lansdowne campus. The CHW will provide a 21st century learning environment including modern classrooms designed to foster active learning, hands-on labs, high technology simulation environments, and lots of collaboration spaces.
Who has been involved in the planning process?
Camosun has been working with an architectural firm since early 2017 to design the CHW. People from across Camosun have been engaged in this process including students, faculty, and staff. Students have been engaged in various ways during this process:
- representatives from HHS programs attended various design sessions
- open feedback sessions were held for the entire college community
- students contributed their ideas on posters or during classes on particular topics
When will classes start at Interurban campus?
We're targeting to start classes in the CHW in September 2019, however, as with any construction project things can change. We'll be sure to keep you posted as the construction phase progresses.
Which programs are moving to Interurban campus?
All HHS programs other than Certified Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene will move to the CHW.
Where can I go for further information?
We have a webpage with up-to-date info about the building. If you have questions about how the move might impact your program please speak with your Program Leader or Chair.
