Dwayne Pettyjohn Chair, Nursing
Dwayne’s healthcare professional career started in Toronto where he attended Humber College and graduated as an Ambulance Attendant in 1987. He worked as an Ambulance Attendant in the Metro Toronto area for 3 years before pursuing a career in nursing. Dwayne enrolled in the combined Camosun College and University of Victoria nursing degree program where he graduated in 1996 with his BSN with Distinction and went on to work on the general surgical units in Victoria. Continuing his education at BCIT, Dwayne achieved an Emergency Nursing Specialty Certificate with Honours in 1998. He then moved to the ER where he spent many years. In 2006, Dwayne began teaching for the Nursing department at Camosun and in 2010 became the Year 2 Program Leader. In 2017, Dwayne completed his Master of Health Studies from Athabasca University and was appointed Associate Chair of the Nursing department in 2018, and Chair of the Nursing Department in 2019.
Although the position of Chair will take Dwayne out of the classroom, he looks forward to the new opportunities and aspects this role brings in supporting students and their learning.
