Ellen Mahoney


A nursing graduate from Camosun College, Ellen Mahoney has taught in the first year of the BSN Nursing Program since 2010.  Prior to then, she was fortunate to experience a versatile career spent in nursing practice, administration and project management including managing Patient Education and Infection Control projects. For five years, she managed the New Grad Transition Program and Mentorship Program throughout Vancouver Island.  Ellen’s passions are supporting students as they transition into the role of student nurses, and mentoring new instructors.  She enjoys teaching in the first year of the BSN program where students develop the foundation for their practice.  She graduated from the University of Victoria with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and from Royal Roads University with a Master of Arts degree in Leadership and Training.

During her BSN education, Ellen focused her studies on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and for over 30 years, has volunteered in a variety of roles associated with ALS.  Ellen is the Past-President of the Victoria Chapter of the ALS Society and Coordinator of the ALS Flower Day.  Currently, she is a Director on the ALS BC Board, and both a member of the Federation Client Services Committee and the Provincial Patient Services Committees. She is the Volunteer Client Services Coordinator for the South Island Region and leads a monthly support group meeting for those impacted by ALS.  She was honoured with the Governor General’s Caring Community Award, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, ALS Canada’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Myra Rosenfeld’s Volunteer of the Year Award for Canada, ALS BC’s Roy Slater Volunteer of the Year Award for BC, and ALS BC’s Honourary Life Membership.  She is also a Director on the Vancouver Island Multiple Myeloma Board.

In 2015, she received the Distinguished Alumni award from Camosun College.
