Healthy communities start with healthy relationships
Jessica Hrechka Fee, Instructor - Early Learning & Care
Jessica Hrechka Fee has a certificate to practice Early Childhood Education within the province of the B.C. and has worked in Head Start, Montessori and StrongStart BC. She was the owner/operator of a community based pre-school for six years. She moved on to work with a social service agency and obtain a Diploma in Adult Education. She worked with foster parents and then youth in the justice system. Her passion was empowering both groups through education and knowledge. Jessica obtained a Masters degree in Education with a focus on place based learning in 2009 and then spent several years exploring Indigenous place based learning with Gitxsan elders and knowledge keepers. She is curious about relationships, place and learning and how all three intersect and influence each other. As she learns about the pre-colonial history of where she lives, she is led to explore relationships within the more than human world. She can be found gaining these insights and learning with college students in Early Childhood Education studies. Some of the most insightful highlights come from spending time exploring the world through the eyes of her young child.
Jessica has been a grateful visitor to the ancestral lands of the Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples for two years. She also spent many years and shares some time around the Lheidli T'enneh, Tsimshian and Gitxsan territories. Her ancestry is of European descent and the ancestors she has a connection with are of Scottish heritage. Through both marriage and adoption she has Ukrainian and Irish names and connections.
