Health and wellness in community... it all starts with caring
Donna Mears, Instructor - Practical NursingBSN
Donna came to work with the Camosun College PN department in the fall of 2013, as the program transitioned into its current two year format. She enjoys interacting with the students in all aspects of their learning journey but particularly in practicum when they experience the translation of theory to practice. Seeing them recognize the meaning and value of their studies as they create a caring environment for people in our community. Today's students are our future health care.
She believes an honest and safe atmosphere facilitates learning that supports the novice as they gain the skill, knowledge and ability necessary to practice. She has a strong passion for the art of nursing and appreciates the opportunity to share her experiential knowledge with students as they explore nursing theory. Her own career began with the opening of Glendale Lodge, taking her through a number of different areas of practice including; residential, community and acute care. A curiosity to know more lead her to continue her studies obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as certifications in Oncology, Chemotherapy, Palliative Care, Acute Gerontology as well as Skin and Wound Care. She had the honour of being recognized for her work as a BC Legislature Nurse in 2008 and won the CRNBC award of Excellence in Nursing Education 2010.
When not engaged in nursing work she loves to travel, particularly on walking or cycling trips seeing other people and places. She plays a very bad game of golf and hangs out with a dynamic group of knitters.
