ACP Students Broadcast Olympics
Posted Mon, 12 Apr 2010
Eleven graduating ACP students got the chance of a lifetime…to help broadcast the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games live from the slopes, the arenas and in the Olympic village. Students spent most of the month of February working with the Olympic Broadcast Services alongside some the best professionals in the media business. Their jobs ranged from Information Assistants, Audio Assistants, and Logistics Assistants; sometimes working 10 hour days in harsh weather conditions and loving it.
Each student created a social media account on Twitter to tweet daily about their experiences. Tweets came poring in -- Shane Priestley “watching the opening curling ceremonies in the Media Observing Booth! Yes!” Alisha Charmley “so you know how Canada won its first gold tonight? I was on the mountain… not in the stands… like ON the mountain…” Alisha’s tweet came from Cypress Mountain immediately after Alexandre Bilodeau made history winning the first gold medal on Canadian soil.
Students had to work hard to keep on top of their coursework but, with this once-in-a-lifetime Olympic opportunity, who knows what might be in store for their future careers.
Thank you to ACP faculty and staff for making this happen.

Camosun College in 2010: a great, local option
Posted Wed, 17 Feb 2010
Feb 10th, 2010 by Alison McCallum of St. Michaels University School
How little I knew about the 2010 version of Camosun College! Although the new information has been readily accessible, my understanding of what they offered was, quite honestly, stuck in the 80's. After spending a day at the Interurban campus a couple of weeks ago, I came away with a new view of the facilities, of the 168 programs offered, and of the student services available. Camosun has continued its strong tradition of career training and hands-on practice, but it has also become a degree-granting institution with a wide range of options for all learners.
