I have taught College and Academic Prep English classes for ESL students at the college since 1995. I feel fortunate to work with such motivated students, who bring their rich and varied cultural and educational backgrounds to the classes. I enjoy not only teaching them but also learning from them – a big bonus to my job. I get a thrill at seeing their progress in English and at seeing them move on to further successes in their later studies and careers. One of the nicest things a student once said to me was "In this course, I learned to think about what I think." To me, that sums up one of the biggest goals of education in general.
I grew up in Montreal and originally went to McGill University. I left Canada at 19 to travel and then spent many years living, working, and traveling in Europe and Asia. For some reason, the countries I spent the most time in all had names beginning with the letter "I"! Later, I came back to live in Canada and completed my university studies here in Victoria. I still love to travel, most often in Central or South America these days. I speak French well and a few other languages quite badly – but I'm always trying to learn more.
