2018 Indigenous Artist-in-Residence
Margaret Briere, is an emerging Two-Spirited, Coast Salish artist from Shíshálh Nation.
Margaret was born in traditional unceded Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories, where she still currently resides. She grew up in the urban setting, which drives her art practice. Margaret explores the binary between colonization and the spiritual-traditional aspects of what it means to be a Coast Salish person in a modern world. She began developing her artistic talents through singing and playing music at an early age. Today, Margaret has started working with incorporating computer software training under the guidance and mentorship of Dylan Thomas to integrate her current work with design technology. Margaret is at her personal best when putting her gifts to practice through telling stories in art. Visit Margaret's website to see her work.
