Do you want to make a difference? Social workers are interested in social change and passionate about social justice. If you have a desire to help people in times of need and crisis, a career in social work may be the right path for you! Social workers are educated in problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well being.
Camosun College offers an Associate Degree that provides a range of integrated courses (Sociology, Psychology, Women's Studies, First Nations Studies, Social Policy, English) intended for students who are considering a career in social work. The Associate of Arts Degree in Pre-Social Work provides you with two years of interdisciplinary studies, in line with provincially established Associate Degree requirements. This program provides all the courses necessary to transfer directly to third year in the Bachelor of Social Work Degree program at University of Victoria or other university social work BSW programs. As you work through your studies, you will complete 20 university transferable courses earning an Associate of Arts Degree in Pre-Social Work.
As a student of the Associate of Arts Degree program, you will have access to excellent academic advice; you'll have a definite learning path, but with room to explore along the way. Associate Degree students complete their studies sooner, and enjoy the fellowship that comes with being part of a cohort with the same goal.
Work Experience is now an option for Associate Degree students
Associate Degree programs have either a Co-op or Internship option. Students will gain practical work experience, which may be paid or unpaid, through either a four-month Internship or two co-op work terms, available after eight courses of academic study. For more information, contact a Co-op Employment Facilitator at email@example.com.
