Camosun College

Prior Learning Assessment

Public Administration programs

Camosun recognizes that learning, which some adults acquire from life and work experiences, may be equivalent to college level learning.

The steps for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) include:

  1. Contact the Program Leader for Public Administration programs. clement@camosun.bc.ca
  2. To start the PLA process, you will need to fill out a PLA application specifying the course you want to receive credit for.
  3. The program leader will put you in touch with an instructor who will identify what you need to do for the PLA. It is likely that you will be expected to submit a portfolio that demonstrates your competence in the content covered in the course. Each course has requirements for what should be in the portfolio which the program leader will discuss with you. There may be other ways to demonstrate your competency and you and the instructor will discuss this when you meet.
  4. You will then enroll in a section of the course you are being assessed in in order to begin the process. You will have tuition fees of one half the regular fees for the course.
  5. You can PLA up to 75% of your diploma program or in Public Administration or in Advanced Diploma in Public Administration.
  6. You need to be a student of the college before the PLA process can be implemented.
