Practical Nurses at Camosun
As a Practical Nursing student, you are part of the Continuing Care department of our School of Health and Human Services.
The School of Health and Human Services is dedicated to preparing learners to work effectively as caring professionals on health care teams and in human service agencies. We offer a broad range of certificate and diploma level programs, a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing, and continuing education courses and programs.
Our programs are designed to ensure that learners master the theory and skills necessary for caring, safe and effective practice. A variety of clinics and agencies become the "living laboratories" where supervised practice encourages learners to develop the values and competencies required for health and human service positions. British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)
This regulatory body helps protect the public interest when it comes to practical nursing. They also facilitate registration for the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam that you are required to write to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. First-time writers of the CPNRE will be granted an interim registration, which is valid from the date of your graduation until three months after the exam date.
Please see the BCCNP website for further details.
The Practical Nursing (PN) Program delivered by Camosun College has been granted a full, four-year recognition status by the BCCNP.
Licensed Practical Nurse Association of BC (LPNABC)
The Association advocates for LPNs in BC. They promote life long learning through a unified voice representing the LPNs of BC. Their vision is learn from the past, focus on the present, prepare for the future, and celebrate our profession.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, your starting wage will be approximately $44,000 per year.
There is a high demand for graduates in long term care facilities, acute care hospitals, and in the community.
LPNs can work across Canada by applying for registration in the province of their choice. LPNs may be eligible for work in the US but each state has different requirements.
