The Plumbing, Refrigeration & Pipe Trades Foundation program blends in-class theory with hands-on practical skills training to prepare graduates for entry level employment and apprenticeships in plumbing, refrigeration and piping trades.
Over 36 weeks (approximately nine months) you will work through common, occupational and specialty modules to gain the skills for several vocational areas including plumbing, steam fitting, sprinkler fitting, gas fitting and refrigeration, as well as other piping-related fields including irrigation, waste water treatment, municipal services, solar system installations, well pump installation or plumbing wholesale supply.
The program also includes the first year of technical training that is required in seven different apprenticeships:
- Plumber
- Pipe Fitter/Steam Fitter
- Sprinkler Fitter
- Gas Fitter
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
- Geothermal Technician
- Heating Technician
Classes are held Monday-Friday at Interurban campus, with new classes starting four times a year: January, April, July and October.
Based on funding and demand, Camosun sometimes offers a shorter Plumbing and Pipe Trades program. This 25-week program covers plumbing, pipe fitting/steam fitting, sprinkler fitting and gas fitting, including the first year of technical training for apprenticeships in these five areas.
Apprenticeship Training:
In addition to the Plumbing, Refrigeration & Pipe Trades Foundation program, Camosun also offers all four levels of technical training required in the seven apprenticeship areas listed above. If you are already in an apprenticeship with an employer sponsor, you may take your required technical training at Camosun on a direct entry basis.
If you start with the Foundation program and then get hired into an apprenticeship, you will already have credit for the first year of technical training. You may then take the rest of your technical training at Camosun for Years 2, 3 and 4.
