Do you dream of performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival, or joining a jam session in New Orleans? Do you dream of passing your passion for music on to others?
In partnership with the Victoria Conservatory of Music, the Diploma in Jazz Studies is designed for students intending to pursue further studies in music in the fields of performance, composition or music education.
You can undertake jazz studies with a focus on an instrument of your choosing, improvisational skills, development of the ear, and work within an aural musical tradition. You will receive intensive one-on-one studio instruction in your chosen instrument, learning new repertoire and techniques; enhancing your practice skills and technical fluency; and developing excellence in performance. This two-year program is offered over four semesters starting in September. All classes are held at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in downtown Victoria.
When you graduate, you'll be ready for employment as a professional performer or teacher. Past graduates are now performing in their local community and many have opened their own teaching studios. Or you can continue your education by completing a degree in jazz or education. Graduates are well prepared to continue post-secondary studies at other institutions such as Malaspina University-College, Capilano College, and Humber Institute.
