Ready to get started? There are three intakes each year so you can begin the program in fall, winter or spring. This program is offered exclusively online.
To apply to the Diploma in Music Technologies, please submit two applications. 1. Camosun application, as well as 2. Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) application. PDF Application deadlines are July 1 for September intake and November 1 for January intake. Get more details from the Camosun/VCM website.
Admission is offered to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Qualified applicants who submit applications after the deadlines above will be offered placement through a waiting-list for a specified future term.
A Minimum Music Competency is required for acceptance.
When you apply, you must demonstrate a Minimum Music Competency in one of two ways:
Option 1: Coursework
- Submit sealed original or certified copy of a postsecondary transcript showing successful completion of coursework equivalent to or exceeding the requirements for Minimum Music Competency along with the application to the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Contact Assistant Program Director Rosabel Choi at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
- Camosun/VCM options: a "C" in MUSC 111 or equivalent and a "C" in MUSC 120 or equivalent. These courses may be taken during taking of the Certificate. The expected Minimum Music Competency theory/rudiments level is the equivalent of VCM Grade 7 or RCM Grade 2 or MUSC 111. Under some circumstances the MUSC 120 pre-requisite may be waived.
Option 2: Written Theory Placement Assessment
- For an additional fee of $40, complete a Written Theory Placement Assessment, through the Victoria Conservatory of Music, demonstrating fluency with the written theory/rudiments of music equivalent to a level of MUSC 111, VCM Grade 7 or RCM Grade 2. If the original or certified copy of your postsecondary transcript demonstrating your Minimum Music Competency does not accompany your application to the Victoria Conservatory of Music, it will be assumed that you are requesting a Written Theory Placement Assessment and you will be charged the associated assessment fee of $40. Minimum Music Competency must be demonstrated in full before admission to the program will be granted. If you request a Written Theory Placement Assessment, you will be contacted by the VCM in order to set a time to write the assessment. The assessment takes three hours to complete.
