What to Expect
In this 10-course program, you will develop a broad base of skills to work in five media fields: theatre, public events, broadcast television, audio-visual support services, and film production.
Located at our Lansdowne campus, the Live Event and Audio-Visual Technician program (EAVTEC) is two semesters long, with a mandatory internship at the end. There is also a part-time option. You'll learn through a practical approach involving applying fundamental skills in live event situations. During your studies, you'll learn with a cohort and move through the program as a group.
You'll develop hands-on skills in the following aspects of production: lighting, live and recorded audio, stage craft, audio-visual services, photography, and video production. Particular emphasis is put on the safe preparation and completion of tasks in live events.
In your first term, you will take five courses. You'll learn about lighting, live audio production, stage fundamentals, photography and videography. You'll also take a workplace preparation course to get ready for your internship.
In your second term, you will build on the basics. You'll take five courses covering multi-track audio production, multiple camera video production, advanced stage craft, audio-visual services, and a capstone course which you design along with your instructors.
After your second academic term, you'll complete a 300-hour internship to gain hands-on skills and work experience in live event and audio-visual services.
