Leadership Development certificate program
celebrates 20 years at Camosun College!
This past fall, the Leadership Development program officially celebrated its 20th anniversary! We had a beautiful celebration with faculty, staff and student in attendance.
The program was developed and started in 1994 by Karen Stephens who was the Program Coordinator and Mary Martin who was the Assistant Director at the time. Their vision was to create a program to help individuals who were either new to a supervisory (leadership) position or wanting to move into a similar position, gain the knowledge they required to be successful in their role. And, although the names have changed, throughout the last 20 years, this program has continued to do just that – provide relevant training for emerging leaders in our community.
Through the years there have been 36 different instructors involved with the program. Currently we have 17 active faculty members committed to the Leadership Program.
In addition to our excellent faculty, the Students are the stars of our program. Over the past 20 years we have had over 3,600 individuals take courses within the program and we have 125 graduates. Each student had enhanced the experiences of their classmates and instructors as well as everyone they have touched since then; Employers, co-workers, family, and friends – the reach is endless.
The program has been through a few reviews over time to add, remove and update components. As the world of business and leadership changes, we are fortunate to be able to address these changes in a timely manner. Our faculty are constantly upgrading and working with their content to keep you up to date. Their flexibility, creativity and knowledge has helped to make this program what it is today.
