Are you interested in enhancing your knowledge and skills for a career in Mental Health
If you have a relevant baccalaureate degree (Child and Youth Care, Education, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work), the Post-Degree Diploma in Interprofessional Mental Health and Addictions (IMHA) prepares you to engage in the assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation of older teens and adults experiencing acute, persistent, and/or co-occurring mental health and addiction challenges.
IMHA is a 12 month part-time program, including a practicum component, designed for working professionals. It's offered through a combination of face to face and online delivery.
IMHA graduates
- use health promotion and psychosocial rehabilitation as foundations for practice with clients and families in acute, tertiary, and community settings.
- apply comprehensive knowledge of mental health, addiction, and other co-occurring challenges to engage in assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation strategies with individuals and families.
- establish and maintain therapeutic alliances and effective helping relationships with individuals and families.
- apply knowledge of personal and professional ethics in practice and effective methods of advocacy with individuals and families.
- work collaboratively in team and leadership roles with various professions and agencies to maximize effi cacy of treatment planning and care delivery.
Employment
As an IMHA graduate you'll work in acute, tertiary, and community settings—most often as members or leaders of an interprofessional team. For examples of available jobs check with the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
Next Offering
The program will run June 16, 2010 – June 9, 2011. The Practicum component will be January – June 2011 and will include 20 hours per week at a practice site plus seminar and online learning time.
