FInd out more about the General Insurance Salesperson/Adjsuter Level 1 course.Camosun College, in conjunction with the Insurance Institute, is pleased to offer the course required by the Insurance Council of BC to obtain a Level 1 Salesperson/Adjuster License.

The Insurance Institute was formed by the provincial institutes in 1952 to facilitate a uniform standard of insurance education and examination across Canada. The local BC Institute has over 4,200 members, employed in all aspects of property and casualty insurance and related industries. It is a non-profit association of which members are students or graduates of their programs.

GIE Course

This course provides the training required by the Insurance Council of BC for anyone wanting to obtain a General Insurance Salesperson or Adjuster – Level 1 License. The course is based on the General Insurance Essentials (GIE) program which is recommended for
newcomers to the insurance industry who have not yet made a definite career commitment.

Successful graduates of this course will be awarded a Certificate from the Insurance Institute of BC. In addition, the successful candidate will be eligible to apply for an equivalency credit in the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation program of the Insurance Institute of Canada .

GIE Exam & Licensing Requirements

Once the education portion is complete, the successful candidate is required to have the sponsorship (employment) of a licensed insurance agency or licensed adjusting firm in order to obtain a Level 1 license from the Insurance Council of BC. Your results from successful completion are considered valid for a period of one year from completion date. If applicants wait longer than one year to obtain a license, they will be required to rewrite the exam.
