Come out, meet your instructors and learn more about the Indigenous Human Services Career Access program!
The Indigenous Human Services Career Access Program (IHSCAP) is a 12-month program that is designed to prepare Aboriginal* learners for entrance into the Human Services and Indigenous Studies programs at Camosun College. Students will explore their strengths and gifts while developing realistic personal, career and educational goals. In addition to increasing their academic skills, students will discuss issues, challenges, and opportunities impacting Aboriginal communities.
The program promotes awareness of Indigenous history and culture while providing for each student a chance to reflect and develop self-awareness and pride as an Indigenous person. Students will also receive guidance and support throughout the program by participating in Circle and Elders’ Teachings.
Students can enter into the following programs:
- Community, Family and Child Studies
- Community Mental Health
- Community Support and Education Assistant
- Early Learning and Care
- Indigenous Family Support
- Indigenous Studies
Students will also need to be aware of any additional, non-academic admission or participation requirements specific to the destination program they choose, such as volunteer hours.
Subject to availability of space in their destination program, students may study part-time. Some of the courses may be offered in the evenings during some of the semesters.
*Camosun College recognizes any student who is a descendant of Indigenous peoples of North America to be an Aboriginal student. This includes status and non-status Indians, Métis, Inuit, and Native Americans who reside in Canada.
