This 335-hour part-time program will give you all the skills you need to apply for employment as a unit clerk. You'll study 10 hours a week from September to April, followed by a required 110-hour hospital practicum in April/May to put your skills to practice.
What you'll learn
You'll learn how to prioritize, process, coordinate, and transcribe physician's orders and perform necessary follow-up actions, as well as identifying commonly-used hospital drugs and work with the hospital's code of ethics.
This program will teach you to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and other members of the health care team. You'll learn about the hospital organizational structure, how to function effectively in a fast-paced environment, and how to perform clerical duties relating to the overall care of patients.
