I joined the Camosun faculty in 2003 after teaching for some years in Montréal. My teaching has spotlighted some of the complex issues surrounding representation, language and power in the literature of former colonies – chiefly the space of Africa and the Caribbean. I also teach a range of approaches to cultural studies by exploring popular sites of cultural expression – performance, orature, etc. I have a tendency to position my teaching around aesthetic questions and the nature and identity of literary works, so the intersection between philosophy and literature often guides my preoccupations.

Presently, I am preparing for a conference in Mainz, Germany, on the ethics of reading – a project I hope to work into a short monograph.
