Follow these three steps to apply and register in an English Language Development program and improve your English skills at Camosun.

Prepare for admission
Step 1: Select your category
International Students
You should:
- be 19 years or older
- meet the guidelines established by Citizenship and Immigration Canada for international students studying in Canada
- have your legal documents ready
If you are an International Student, you should contact Camosun College International and they will assist you with Step 2: Placement, and Step 3: Application and Registration.
Permanent Residents (Landed Immigrants) and Canadian Citizens
You should:
- be 19 years or older
- meet the prerequisites for each course OR take an English language placement assessment to help us place you at the correct level
- have your legal documents ready
If you are a Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant), Refugee, or Canadian Citizen and do not meet the prerequisites, go to step 2.
If you are a Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant), Refugee or Canadian Citizen and do meet the prerequisites, go to step 3.
Placement
Step 2: Make an appointment for the ESL placement test
- If English is not your first language and you wish to book an English Language (ESL) assessment, please contact ELD.
- The ELD department offers weekly language testing at the Interurban campus and one evening testing session per month at the Lansdowne campus.
Application and Registration
Step 3: Apply and register
If you are taking ELD 032 to ELD 064, come in to the Basic ESL Assessment & Registration office to apply and register.
If you are taking ELD 072 to ELD 104:
- apply online or print and fill in the Camosun College application. Completed forms can be mailed or dropped off at Admissions
- register with Admissions
Congratulations! You are now a Camosun College student. Welcome!
Completion requirements
Certificate in English Language Development–Level 1
To graduate with a Certificate in English Language Development–Level 1, you must successfully complete ELD 052 and ELD 054 indicating you have developed the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills required to enter Access programs.
Certificate in English Language Development–Level 2
To graduate with a Certificate in English Language Development–Level 2, you must successfully complete either ELD 092 and ELD 094, or ELD 097 indicating you have developed the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for entry into Camosun's college-level programs.
Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) equivalencies
The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) equivalencies have been approved for Camosun College's English Language Development courses. These standards can be verified in the most recent BC ESL Articulation Guide. PDF
Other supports to consider
- See Financial Aid if you need financial assistance.
- Contact the Centre for Accessible Learning if you have a documented disability. They can help arrange services and supports and act as a resource for you and your instructors.
