Big equipment is expensive and down time is even more expensive. Skilled mechanics are in constant demand to keep these essential vehicles in top running order for the booming construction, transportation, mining and forestry industries.

Camosun College’s 10 month full-time Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Mechanic program will give you the skills and theory you’ll need to enter the trade. You’ll be trained to become proficient in the service and maintenance of on- and off-highway vehicles, with special emphasis on electrical and hydraulic systems, air and hydraulic brakes, power trains and engine systems. Through this Foundation program, you will also be given three weeks of work experience.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a Certificate in Heavy Duty Mechanic Foundation and a Certificate in Commercial Transport Mechanic Foundation.

After successfully completing the Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Mechanic Foundation program (formerly Entry Level Training), you may be eligible for credit towards an apprenticeship program. For further information on apprenticeships, visit the ITA webite.

A new program starts in September each year.
